BECI, Brussels’ Chamber of Commerce and the Union of Enterprises in Brussels

BECI 3.0     Our history      Mission statement     Structure     Personnel

Beci, that's all of us

Beci (Brussels Enterprises Commerce & Industry) is the result of a partnership between the Brussels’ Chamber of Commerce and the Union of Enterprises in Brussels: two private non-profit organizations, managed by and for their members, founded on an inter-professional, neutral and bilingual model. Beci represents two-thirds of employment in Brussels and over 35,000 companies.

Beci is evolving. ‘Voice, connect, serve": this is our new way of operating and approaching members in the digital world. As part of this 3.0 approach, Beci is working with its members to set up the Brussels Business Community. Community members, not Beci, will play the leading role. Beci is now empowering the Community by focusing on digital tools, data, connecting members, creating interaction and strengthening the Community through its expertise.

Beci 3.0 is based on three main pillars:

1. Defending interests and powerful lobbying
2. New platforms, new services and shared expertise
3. Our offices at 500 Avenue Louise are open to the Community

– Beci's mission is to be the driving force behind business in Brussels and to promote the capital as a dynamic and prosperous metropolitan region.
– We want our members to succeed and their businesses to meet ESG criteria.
– We are constantly putting our members in touch with new trade, investment and partnership opportunities in Brussels and abroad.

Defending interests and Lobby as a Service

Beci's main mission is to defend the interests of the Brussels business community in relation to all political and socio-economic players. The general interest of the Community is and remains our guiding principle. To play its part in this area, Beci is launching a confidential digital platform that enables about a hundred ambassadors to identify and report potential risks. The Community can then react proactively and interactively and adopt a common standpoint on important issues such as taxation and mobility. More information will follow.

Beci represents the Community in bodies where political and administrative decisions are taken. These decisions very often have a direct and indirect impact on our companies and organisations. This is why Beci participates in numerous organisations to defend our interests at all political levels.

Platforms, services and expertise:

Expertise comes from the Community. The Brussels Business Community has over 3,000 members, representing 320,000 active people. That's a lot of valuable expertise, which we're going to put to good use for the Community.
Beci is therefore co-creating a platform with the Community where members can call on experts. These experts belong to the Community and can help in the following areas: – Vie privée et propriété intellectuelle
– Tax and accounting
– ESG, energy and environmental legislation
– Urban planning and mobility
– HR and social law
– Import/Export and international relations
– Management and creation of companies
– Commercial law
– Subsidies and financing
– Cybersecurity and digitalisation
–  Real estate law

You're the expert. Would you like to contribute your expertise to the Community? Don't hesitate to contact us.

We will be updating and expanding the platform Beci.legal where members can download legal and other documents they need to complete.
Access to the Connects platform, which enables members to get in touch with international business partners, remains free of charge.
As a member of the Community, you also have access to the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) to help you expand internationally.

Existing services:

– Companies in difficulty
– Mediation
– Export formalities

will remain operational and will also evolve digitally.

Avenue Louise 500

A cohesive Community needs a home. Beci's current headquarters at 500 Avenue Louise will become an open house for the entire Community. The three floors underwent a complete facelift during the health crisis, to honour their new function as a ‘Community House’. The meeting rooms, offices and café on the ground floor will be open to the Community. Any member can welcome a customer there on request, or organise meetings with partners or colleagues. The membership fee also covers these services.

Domicile:

Beci is also launching a ’ company domiciliation service ' for B2B companies that operate in Brussels but do not have an address there.

You are the Community:

The Community is its own strength. You can now share your informative content with the Community via the Beci content platform, our magazine, social media, radio, podcasts and many other channels. You can also work with Beci to organise events or training sessions for the Community. A dedicated team is ready to co-create for you.

A transparent, high-value membership:

This new approach is also accompanied by a new, particularly transparent form of membership. With the exception of a few activities, more than 80% of the events, training courses and services that Beci offers to strengthen the Community are included in the new affiliation. That way, it's clear to everyone.

We are moving forward with the digitisation of the Brussels Chamber of Commerce. Our aim is to use this transition as a model for Brussels businesses. Just goes to show, you're never too young or too old to change.
If we can do it, so can you.

Other priorities:

Lobby for gender equality
Beci has entered into a close partnership with the Canadian organisation 'The A Effect'. The objective is to give women a greater say at the very heart of Europe. As part of this project, Beci will organise speaking opportunities for successful women entrepreneurs to share their successes and challenges and inspire the community. We will also offer training programmes.

ESG and sustainable development
The current energy crisis is confronting us with reality and forcing us to speed up the ecological transition. The recent introduction of European ESG directives is having an impact on the entire supply chain. There's also the Brussels Economic Transition Fund, with a budget of €10 million. Here again, Beci will help members of the Community to fill in the applications to apply for the available funding.

Our vision, our commitments

Today's world is different from that of 2019. All countries, all sectors, all companies, in one way or another, are affected by the Covid 19 crisis. Over and above the urgent responses that are needed, whether in terms of health, politics, finance or the economy, the new situation calls for a special approach .

Recovery plans are useful. They are useful insofar as they are based on a vision that makes choices. Strategic choices that guide budgetary choices. How can we ensure the economic and social prosperity of Brussels now and in the future?

BECI represents the 35,000 companies and entrepreneurs with economic activities in Brussels, as well as the self-employed, company directors and the liberal professions. In total, more than 80% of activities and no less than 2/3 of employment are covered by BECI, which defends their interests in dealings with the Brussels government and public institutions.
