With the Mobility Pack, SNCB offers companies a way to simplify the mobility of their employees and ease the management of their daily commute. A practical and flexible solution, but what else ?
In September, Jihane Annane, Executive Director of Corporate Communication & Public Affairs at SNCB, shared with BECI: "Employees from many companies can benefit from the 'third-party payment' system." Under this system, the employer covers part of the train subscriptions for their employees, and the legal employer contribution has recently increased from 56% to 71.8%. To go even further, SNCB offers the "Mobility Pack": a solution where, if the private company covers 80%, the government takes care of the rest, allowing employees to travel for free. But what does the Mobility Pack actually offer?
A better management and tax benefits
Primarily intended for private companies, the Mobility Pack covers up to 80% of the transport subscriptions for employees commuting to work. Thanks to the "Business Portal", an online platform, employers can manage their staff’s commuting. For companies, this means less paperwork, fewer reimbursement calculations, and precise tracking of expenses for each team member.
In addition to reducing administrative burdens, the Mobility Pack offers tax advantages for companies: the employer’s contribution is exempt from social security charges, fully deductible, and VAT is reclaimable.
A door-to-door mobility
The Mobility Pack is modular: it includes standard or flexible commuting subscriptions that are compatible with local networks (STIB, TEC, De Lijn), enabling seamless door-to-door travel. For occasional trips, Business e-tickets can be ordered online and billed centrally.
A hybrid alternative is also available for those using a company car. With the "Railease" option, employees can switch between their car and the train according to their needs. A SNCB parking subscription is also part of the offer for employees combining both modes of transport, allowing them to park near the station.
A step towards sustainable mobility
Choosing the train also means reducing the company's ecological footprint. A study by the Belgian National Railway Company (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Belges in French) shows that trains emit up to 20 times less CO₂ than cars, making it one of the most environmentally friendly transportation options.
The SNCB’s B2B mobility service also notes that train travel is perceived as less stressful, contributing to higher employee satisfaction and productivity. Furthermore, it indicates that by offering free commuting, companies position themselves favorably in the job market, enhancing talent retention and reducing absenteeism.
In conclusion, the Mobility Pack means less administrative hassle, savings for the company, a stronger image as a responsible employer, and a contribution to sustainable mobility.
