Brussels, 5 February 2024 - On Friday 2 February, Olivier Willocx, Managing Director of the Brussels Chamber of Commerce and Union of Enterprises (BECI), was invited by the MR party to make a political commitment in the forthcoming regional elections. ‘When I was asked to defend businesses in the next parliamentary term or in the Brussels government, it was hard to say no,’ he said. ‘After 24 years as CEO of BECI, it was time for me to do something else,’ added Olivier Willocx.
In practical terms, the transition from an employers' organisation to politics means that Olivier Willocx can no longer hold the position of CEO of BECI. However, he will remain temporarily at the disposal of BECI's Presidency and Management to enable a smooth transition to a new general management.
Annick Hernot, Chair of BECI: ‘Of course we regret Olivier's decision to leave BECI, but we also see it as an opportunity for Brussels entrepreneurs: we need politicians who can make a difference and put economic functions higher on the political agenda. We would like to thank Olivier for everything he has achieved for BECI and wish him every success in this new challenge. The teams are continuing to work to strengthen BECI and make it a key partner for entrepreneurs. Our first priority is to find a new Managing Director'.
While awaiting the appointment of a new CEO for the Brussels Chamber of Commerce and Union of Enterprises (BECI), Jan De Brabanter, the current Secretary General, has been appointed to manage BECI ad interim (jdb@beci.be – M. 0499 588 845).
